Based in Washington DC, Bell Pottinger USA specializes in political, government and public affairs consultancy services and strategic communications advice.  We are a partnership of senior practitioners with global reach.  Our team of strategic advisors combines decades of service across a range of sectors at the highest levels of government and the private sector.  Part of Chime Communications PLC, we work closely with our offices in London, New York, Brussels and across the Middle East, as well as a network of alliances throughout the world.  Depending on the precise nature of the brief, our strategic partners – from both sides of the political aisle - include former US Ambassadors, former Chiefs of Staff on Capitol Hill, senior political appointees and journalists, with expertise in energy, financial services, healthcare + pharmaceuticals, telecoms, defense, transport, homeland security, and international relations.

What we do…

BPUSA manages the reputations of our clients, whether they are international blue chip companies, trade bodies or foreign governments.  We give them the influence and solutions they need to achieve their political objectives by helping them to engage effectively with stakeholders and the media, particularly in times of crisis.  Whatever the region or industry, we can provide counsel to a client that will mitigate their negative political exposure, build key relationships, and enhance their commercial bottom line.  We also manage long-term, large-scale, sensitive political-military strategic communications projects on behalf of governments across international boundaries in conflict and post-conflict regions.

Some of the many projects we have undertaken include:

• helping international pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly to protect its IPR in Russia, China and Japan by developing high-level relationships with the US Trade Representatives, the US Commerce Department and the US State Department

• providing US Government Affairs support to a Eurasian gas and energy firm in anticipation of its entrance into the US market

• working with the International Republican Institute to prepare political parties in post-apartheid South Africa for the inaugural national elections

• advising global energy company Shell for most of the last 20 years on addressing political risks, including compliance with Iran sanctions, expropriation issues in Venezuela, the impact of unrest in Nigeria, and political engagement in Ukraine

• advising BP for most of the last 20 years on using its political leverage around the world, including successful efforts to retain assets in Russia that were at substantial economic risk

• advising Westinghouse on local community outreach programs and engagement in state political processes
