Bell Pottinger and BMT's Integrated Stop Smoking Campaign for NHS East Lancs Sees Record Number of Quitters

Monday, 26 January 2009

An integrated marketing campaign for NHS East Lancashire, carried out by PR agency Bell Pottinger North, has resulted in a huge uptake of the Primary Care Trust’s smoking cessation service.

The campaign, which was launched on New Year’s Day, used local press and broadcast media to promote the PCT’s Stop Smoking Service.  A combination of advertorials, news releases and successful quitters’ case studies struck a chord with its audience.

Christine Donnelly, Stop Smoking Service Coordinator, observed they had received an influx of new clients: “This is the busiest festive / New Year period I have seen in the seven years I have been in this role,” she commented.

The successful campaign is now being stepped up a gear with the use of billboard advertising, executed by marketing communications agency BMT, a sister company of Bell Pottinger North.  A series of eye-catching posters will be featuring on roadside hoardings, as well as the grounds of Burnley FC, from the 26th January.

Peter Pendlebury, Health Development Specialist at NHS East Lancashire, added: “Though in its early stages, the campaign has proved successful.  With the billboard advertising campaign, we are further reinforcing the message to the people of East Lancashire that we are here to help you quit smoking.”
