Bell Pottinger has won a contract with the Health & Safety Laboratory (HSL) to deliver a comprehensive campaign of PR and communications support over the next 12-24 months. This makes it four in a row for Bell Pottinger North which continues to expand its client portfolio with this major new public sector account win.
HSL was originally set up as a division of the UK’s Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and became established as an in-house Agency on 1st April 1995. While continuing to assist HSE in delivery of the Government’s national health and safety agenda, HSL also provides research and testing services to independent private and public sector clients. It has particular expertise and experience in the following areas:
■ Fire, explosion and process safety
■ Human factors
■ Risk assessment
■ Occupational health
■ Occupational hygiene
■ Safety engineering
■ Visual production services.
The organisation, which employs more than 400 people, moved into a new, £multi-million, purpose-built facility in Buxton in 2004 – making it the largest concentration of health and safety specialists on a single site.
Bill Nixon, HSL business development director, said: “Bell Pottinger North met all the requirements of our tender and we are looking forward to working with the team over the coming months in developing our communications strategy.”
Bell Pottinger North MD Chris Warham is delighted with the win, which came following a competitive tender process. He said: “This is great news for us as it demonstrates the breadth and depth of our service offering and the calibre of our strategic thinking. HSL is a unique organisation undertaking subtle cultural change and we look forward to helping them achieve their goals and objectives as we take the campaign forward.”
The win is the fourth new business win this month for Bell Pottinger North (BPN) which has also announced the news of its appointment by motoring law specialist Driving Defences, classroom technology solution LapCabby and the UK’s favourite retailer, Waitrose. Since its acquisition of Leeds-based Ptarmigan in March 2009, BPN now has the largest team of PR and communications consultants anywhere in the north, with offices in Manchester/Cheshire, Liverpool and Leeds. It is part of the Bell Pottinger Group of companies owned by Chime Communications plc, the marketing communications group founded by Lord Tim Bell in 1989.
