Bell Pottinger North win brief for arthritis drug

Wednesday, 15 February 2006

Bell Pottinger North has been appointed by pharmaceutical company Medac UK to promote the launch of the first licensed parenteral methotrexate arthritis drug, Metoject.

The media campaign will target specialist consultants, GPs and nurses as well as Primary Care Trusts and arthritis charities.

Metoject is already licensed and widely used in Germany, Spain, Sweden, Denmark and Finland has been recently launched in Turkey and Switzerland. Medac UK plan to launch Metoject in this country at the British Society for Rheumatology annual meeting to be held in Glasgow, May 2006.

Medac UK marketing director, Tony Johnson, commented: “There are an estimated 387,000 patients with diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis with 12,000 new cases every year. There is good data to show that injectable forms of this arthritis drug are better for patients than oral drugs as they reduce side effects and produce more consistent results. We have appointed Bell Pottinger North to raise the profile of Metoject amongst clinicians and NHS management as well as patients and their carers because of their excellent track record in pharmaceutical PR.”

The Bell Pottinger team working on the Metoject campaign are: media account director Vicki Baxter, medical account director Mel Edrich and account manager, Alison Duffy.
