Chime Communications plc awarded a Big Tick by Business In The Community

Wednesday, 10 June 2009

Chime Communications plc (Chime) is delighted to announce it has been awarded a Reaccreditation Big Tick award by the Business in the Community (“BITC”) for its continued environmental performance.

The award is made by a panel of independent, experienced practitioners, and is hard earned, often made to less than 40% of total applicants (only 39% of applicants in 2008 were successful).

Other recent developments and successes include:

- Chime has made considerable progress in improving its environmental performance, reducing its carbon footprint by 37% in its first year as a carbon neutral company and has met its 2008 commitment to reducing its carbon footprint by a further 5%. Total carbon reduction of 42% in just two years.

- In 2008, Chime was listed on the FTSE4Good Index, the measure of performance for companies who meet globally recognised corporate responsibility standards, for the first time and is delighted to have retained its listing in 2009

Chime’s CSR performance and forward commitments are detailed in the Company’s Corporate Responsibility section and report on the Chime plc website www.chime.plc.uk

Chris Satterthwaite, Chief Executive of Chime, comments:

“We’re extremely pleased with what we have achieved in reducing our carbon emissions and are delighted to have received a Reaccreditation of our Big Tick award.  Despite the fact that we are operating in a difficult economic climate, we have actively demonstrated that CSR makes a real difference to our employees and our clients. We have reduced our carbon emissions by making it part of the culture of the Chime Group embedding environmentally and socially responsible practice from the ground up, encouraging employees, suppliers and clients to take small, achievable steps.   Together, these small steps add up to a significant impact.”

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community said:

“I congratulate all the winners of a Big Tick this year. In the current economic climate it is fantastic to see so many strong examples of businesses that recognise the benefits, both social, environmental and to their bottom line, of being a responsible business.

The Big Tick is now recognised as both a valuable and difficult award to achieve. It means a company has demonstrated ways in which they positively make a difference to the environment, their workplace, the community or in the marketplace in which they sell, advertise or trade.

Those who achieve the Big Tick are leading companies, ones that run their businesses aware that they depend above all on the talent, innovation and loyalty of their people. They know that they cannot build a successful sustainable business without constantly showing their commitment to being a better business.”
