Crowne Plaza hotels sign up Bell Pottinger North

Tuesday, 24 June 2008

Bell Pottinger North has been appointed to launch two Crowne Plaza hotels – a new hotel in Manchester city centre and a fully refurbished property in the heart of Birmingham.

The public relations consultancy, part of Britain’s top ranking communications group, was brought in by the hotels’ Liverpool-based operator Centre Island.

Bell Pottinger North’s campaigns are focused on building profiles for the hotels across the business and travel media and on supporting launch events later this year.

“The Crowne Plaza Manchester City Centre is the first hotel to bring high quality accommodation and service to the Northern Quarter of the city,” said Bell Pottinger North director John Butters.

“It has 228 contemporary and spacious rooms, conferencing facilities for up to 300 delegates, and is particularly well located for the MEN Arena, SportCity, the Printworks, Urbis and the professional services companies based around Deansgate.

“We will also be generating interest in the hotel’s ‘destination’ restaurant, which will be serving fresh locally sourced food.”

In Birmingham, Centre Island is investing £16 million in a complete refurbishment of the Crowne Plaza Birmingham City Centre, which it acquired in 2005.

The project will see the hotel benefit from the redesign of all 312 bedrooms, plus the addition of a new front-facing ‘destination’ restaurant and a floor that is dedicated to meeting and conference rooms.

“This refurbishment will put the Crowne Plaza back at the heart of Birmingham,” added Butters.

“It is ideally located in B1 to serve the needs of the city’s local businesses and visitors to the International Convention Centre and we are looking to position the hotel as ‘the venue’ in Birmingham.”
