Wednesday, 23 January 2008

It is the second major win for the agency in Sri Lanka.

Good Relations won the business after visiting the Colombo to start work with the Sri Lankan Government and business leaders to promote the island’s economy. The agency pitched to the Central Bank as a joint project with Sri Lankan advertising firm Triad.

Sri Lanka is seeking to build international confidence in the island’s business, commerce and tourism which is recovering from the Tsunami and despite the long running civil war in the north of the island has experienced more than 6.5% growth in 2007.

The current escalation of the ethnic conflict and terrorism has highlighted the need to re-assure international media that Sri Lanka is very much open for business.

Good Relation’s Teresa Anne Dunleavy said: “The win came as a result of the excellent contacts we are building in Sri Lanka working with the business community and Government in Colombo.

“As an agency we are looking to expand our international portfolio to support continued growth in the UK.”

The team includes Media and Strategy Director Malcolm Munro who met with the President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, ministers and the island’s business leaders in December.

He said: “The recent assassination of a minister in Colombo and the Government’s cancellation of the ceasefire with the Tamils have been widely reported but day to day life goes on in Sri Lanka as normal and it is important that the country maintains and builds confidence internationally.”

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka recently won a top Asian banking award for its debut into the international bond market with a $500 million offering to the markets snapped up more than 130 international investors.

Good Relations will initially target international business media based in London and Asia.
