Change your Light Bulbs for a good Cause!

Friday, 17 December 2010

Right in time for the Christmas period, traditionally the season of presents, light and donations, Bell-Pottinger Harvard in Munich has launched “Die Lichtspende”, The charity campaign for Toshiba New Lighting Systems Germany, the LED-Division of Toshiba, intends to promote the environmental as well as the financial advantages of LED-Bulbs to consumers as well as architects and engineers. Among the first participants is the famous “Tambosi”, the oldest café in Munich. The modern LED-lighting technology blends well with the cosy biedermeier atmosphere of the coffeehouse.

The charity project basically involves three steps:
1. Get a gift: Toshiba sponsors 1.200 LED-bulbs. Everyone that registers for “Die Lichtspende” (private businesses or organisations in Germany or Austria) receives 12 bulbs for free.
2. Save: By exchanging the formerly used lights with the 12 LED-bulbs, the particiapant reduces its energy costs and carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 80%
3. Make a donation: The participant donates one sixth of the energy cost saved over the 6 year long lifespan of the LEDs to “Ein Herz für Kinder”, a Children’s Fund.

Every one eager to change the bulbs for a good cause can find more information on a specially designed microsite (www.lichtspende.de), see photos on the project at flickr (http://www.flickr.com/people/lichtspende/) and propose its favourite pub or restaurant as a “Lichtspende” participant via tweet @Lichtspende.
