LEADING ONLINE YOUTH CHARITY HIRES BELL POTTINGER

Tuesday, 17 October 2006

YouthNet, one of the UK's early pioneers of online advice, information and guidance, has hired Bell Pottinger Business & Brand to boost its public profile.

The charity, founded by former newsreader Martyn Lewis in 1995, engages young people through two websites: www.do-it.org.uk - volunteering made easy; and www.thesite.org - the one-stop-shop of advice and support for 16-24 year olds.

Fiona Dawe, YouthNet chief executive, said: "Anyone who wants to get messages out needs to understand how and where people are moving, or in some cases, moved. And with the increase in online communities, this way of communicating is key.

"do-it.org.uk offers over 650,000 opportunities to volunteer; and thesite.org attracts an average 450,000 visitors a month. We engage with young people for a longer time by using the mediums they are most comfortable with. Our websites provide a safe and accessible space where young people can get guidance, seek support and discuss the range of issues affecting their lives. The opportunities are massive.

"Bell Pottinger Business & Brand's role will be to help us tell more people about YouthNet, the technology we use and the fact that we offer two great platforms where young people can network, be informed and also be inspired to achieve their ambitions and dreams."

The account will be overseen by Kevin Read, Business & Brand Managing Director, who will report directly to the chief executive.

Kevin Read said: "YouthNet is a hidden gem in the social media world. We are looking forward to working with the charity and helping to ensure that YouthNet's sites are a must for any young person."
