Opinion Leader wins two awards for its ground-breaking Your Health, Your Care, Your Say Citizens' Summit

Monday, 27 November 2006

The impact of the UK's first Citizens' Summit 'Your Health, Your Care, Your Say' has been recognised by two of the leading research organisations - the Market Research Society and the Association of Qualitative Research.

Your Health, Your Care, Your Say culminated in bringing 1000 citizens from across England together for one day to discuss, deliberate and prioritise policies for the future of community based health and social care.

Opinion Leader has long been known as the pioneer of debates - locally, regionally and nationally. These achievements have been recognised with two awards: The AQR Prosper Riley-Smith Effectiveness Award as well as the MRS Public Policy/Social Research Effectiveness Award for the Summit. These are great achievements against fierce competition, and show how Opinion Leader's reputation continues to grow.

The call for entries for this year's Research and Effectiveness Awards attracted a record breaking number of entries conveying that the sector remains high in confidence, bold in innovation and creative in serving its customers.

The judges awarded The Prosper Riley-Smith Effectiveness Award by saying, "Opinion Leader showed us how a qualitative approach can gather insights and understandings from a broad public. They illustrated the crossroads with which qualitative research has now reached, offering alternative approaches and paths to the future."

The MRS Public Policy/Social Research Effectiveness Award was given to the submission that best demonstrated the impact of research on decision-making within, and understanding the issues relating to the public and/or social arena. The Department of Health wanted to engage the public on a scale and intensity never attempted before to determine the priorities for the Government White Paper about out-of hospital care which was published in February this year.

Opinion Leader's programme represented major changes in the way research is used by government with the judges going on to say that, "This will change the landscape for social and public policy research. There is little doubt that we will see more of this."
