Leeds-based agency Ptarmigan Bell Pottinger, part of the Bell Pottinger Group, has been appointed by the Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation to raise awareness of the sports-focused Challenge South Africa Project, which the Foundation is supporting.
Ptarmigan Bell Pottinger’s sports marketing division has been tasked with raising awareness of the Sir Stanley Matthews Foundation’s involvement in the project, a cultural exchange that sees students and staff from Stoke College travel to Cape Town to provide coaching and equipment to schools.
Following his retirement Sir Stanley Matthews spent many years coaching in South African townships. February’s trip to Cape Town marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Sir Stanley Matthews, who died on February 23rd 2000, and also the 10th anniversary of the foundation itself, which was established following his death.
Jean Gough, Sir Stanley Matthews’ daughter and patron of the foundation, said: “Appointing Ptarmigan Bell Pottinger is a signal of our ambition to expand Sir Stan’s legacy. Over the last 10 years we have raised much needed funds that have helped groups and individuals to achieve their sporting goals. Our involvement in the Challenge South Africa project celebrates the work he did in the townships and appointing an agency with Ptarmigan Bell Pottinger’s experience in sport will help us to promote our good work.”
